Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Mint Memo (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is dedicated to protecting your privacy and ensuring you maintain absolute ownership over your personal information. Mint Memo operates as a smart memory reminder and item location tracking application designed for mobile platforms, including Apple iOS and Google Android devices. This Privacy Policy details how the Mint Memo application functions, our strict local-first data architecture, and your rights regarding the information you choose to log within the software.

This Privacy Policy applies to all users of the Mint Memo mobile application, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It applies regardless of where you are located or which device you use to access the application. When this policy refers to “we,” “us,” or “our,” it refers to the Mint Memo development team. When it refers to “you” or “user,” it refers to any person who downloads, installs, or uses the Mint Memo application.

If you are using Mint Memo on behalf of a business, team, or organization, this policy applies to the individuals within that entity who use the application and to the data they save within it.

2. What We Do

Before explaining individual data categories, it is important to understand the architecture of Mint Memo, because it is different from most applications you use.

Mint Memo is a local first application. This means that all data you save within the application, including photos, location descriptions, GPS coordinates, documents, reminders, medication records, and any other saved content, is stored directly on your device. It is not uploaded to Mint Memo servers, because Mint Memo does not operate any servers that store user data. We do not have a backend database containing your records. We do not have access to what you have saved. We cannot retrieve, view, search, or process the content of your Mint Memo records, because that content never leaves your device through us.

This architecture was a deliberate design choice. A memory assistant that saves sensitive documents, health information, location details, and identity records should not be sending that information to a developer’s servers. So Mint Memo does not. The trade-off is that we cannot recover your data if your device is lost without a backup. The benefit is that your information is entirely within your own control.

3. Information We Collect

Mint Memo accesses certain device features to provide its functionality. Below is a detailed explanation of every category of data the application touches, what it does with that data, and where that data goes.

(a) Photos and Camera

Mint Memo requests access to your device’s camera and photo library so you can take or upload photos when saving a record. When you photograph an item, a receipt, a medicine label, a flight ticket, a hotel booking, a document, or any other record, that photo is processed locally on your device. The application uses on-device processing to read the image, extract relevant information such as text, dates, product names, or categories, and pre-fill the record form for you. This processing happens entirely within the app on your device. The photo and any extracted information are stored only on your device. No photo or image file is transmitted to Mint Memo, any Mint Memo developer infrastructure, any third-party AI service, any cloud processing API, or any external server. We do not send your photos to OpenAI, Google AI, Apple AI services, or any other artificial intelligence provider.

(b) Location Data

Mint Memo offers two ways to record where an item is located. The first is a manual text description, such as “kitchen cabinet, top shelf,” which requires no location permission and involves no GPS access. The second is optional GPS coordinate capture, which is only available with your explicit permission.

If you grant location permission, Mint Memo may capture your device’s GPS coordinates at the moment you save a specific record. This allows you to associate a precise physical location with a saved item. This GPS data is captured only at the point of saving and only when you have chosen to save a location. The application does not track your location continuously, does not monitor your movements in the background, and does not capture location data when you are not actively saving a record.

The GPS coordinates captured during a save are stored locally on your device as part of that record. They are not transmitted to Mint Memo, the developer, any analytics service, any advertising network, any AI provider, or any other third party. You can revoke location permission at any time through your device’s system settings without affecting your ability to use any other feature of the application.

(c) Health Information

Users can voluntarily save health-related records within Mint Memo, including medication names, dosage details, prescription labels, vaccination records, vaccination certificates, medical appointment reminders, and related photographs. This information is processed and stored locally on your device. It is never transmitted to Mint Memo, the developer, any third-party AI provider, any advertising platform, or any analytics service.

Health information saved in Mint Memo is used only to provide the specific functionality you requested when you saved it. It is not used for advertising, profiling, behavioral analysis, or marketing of any kind. Medication reminders and medical appointment alerts are generated and scheduled using your device’s local notification system and are not routed through any Mint Memo-operated server or cloud messaging infrastructure.

It is important to note that Mint Memo is a personal organization tool, not a medical application. Information you save about medications or health appointments is for your personal reference only. It should not be used as a substitute for guidance from a qualified healthcare professional.

(d) Identity and Official Documents

Users may choose to save photographs and records of identity documents, including passports, national identification cards, insurance cards, certificates, driving licenses, and similar sensitive records. These records and their associated photographs are stored locally on your device. They are not transmitted to Mint Memo, the developer, or any third-party service or server. Mint Memo does not access these records remotely. The application uses the security features available on your device’s operating system, including iOS and Android data protection mechanisms, to store this information. We strongly recommend enabling your device’s full-disk encryption, screen lock, and biometric authentication if you intend to store identity or official documents within the application.

(e) Flight and Hotel Reservations

Mint Memo supports saving flight tickets, boarding passes, hotel booking confirmations, and travel reservation records. When you photograph a supported document type, the application reads the relevant information locally and pre-fills a record form. Flight dates, destinations, booking references, hotel names, check-in and check-out dates, and any associated notes or photos are stored on your device. This information is not sent to any airline, hotel, travel platform, booking aggregator, or any other third party. Mint Memo does not communicate with reservation systems on your behalf and does not verify or manage live bookings.

(f) Reminders and Notifications

Mint Memo allows you to set reminders for appointments, medications, vaccinations, warranty expiration dates, birthdays, travel check-ins, and other personal events. Reminders are generated and scheduled using your device’s local notification system. At the platform level, notification delivery may use Apple Push Notification Service on iOS devices or Google Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android devices. These services are operated by Apple and Google respectively under their own terms and privacy policies. Mint Memo does not operate its own notification server and does not use these services to collect data about you.

(g) Purchases

In-app purchases within Mint Memo are processed entirely by Apple or Google through their respective platform payment systems. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details, bank account information, or billing address. We receive from Apple or Google only a transaction confirmation and purchase status, which is used solely to activate your lifetime access on your device.

4. Information We Don’t Collect

Given that many applications collect extensive data for advertising and analytics purposes, it is worth explicit about what Mint Memo does not do. The app is designed so that your identity and habits remain entirely private from the moment you start using it.

(a) We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or other contact information. You can use the app without providing these personal details.

(b) You do not need to create an account, provide an email address, or log in to use the app. The app is designed to work without requiring you to maintain a user account.

(c) We do not assign you a permanent or persistent user identifier that connects your activity across different sessions. Your use of the app is not designed to create a profile that follows you over time.

(d) We do not collect device identifiers for advertising, targeted marketing, or tracking purposes. Your device information is not used to build an advertising profile about you.

(e) We do not use third-party analytics services to track how you use the app. This means we do not collect information such as session duration, feature usage, browsing behavior, or detailed activity statistics through third-party analytics platforms. We also do not use third-party analytics tools to collect crash reports.

(f) The app does not display advertisements. We also do not share your information with advertising networks or other companies for the purpose of showing you targeted advertisements.

(g) We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We also do not share your information with third parties for their own commercial purposes, including marketing, advertising, or creating customer profiles.

(h) Your information is not used to train machine learning models or improve AI systems. This includes your saved records, photos, location information, and health-related information. The AI features are used to provide the functions available in the app, not to build or train AI models using your personal data.

5. Third-Party Services

Mint Memo does not integrate with third-party AI services, analytics platforms, advertising networks, or data brokers as part of its core functionality. The application does not contain analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or tracking SDKs that would transmit your data to external parties.

The following platform-level services interact with Mint Memo as part of normal device and operating system behavior, not as integrations we have built:

6. Device Permissions

Mint Memo requests the following device permissions. Each permission is explained below, along with why it is needed and what happens if you decline it.

Camera permission allows you to take photos of items, documents, receipts, and other records directly within the application. If you decline camera permission, you can still use the application by uploading existing photos from your photo library or by saving records without photos.

Photo library permission allows you to select and upload existing photos from your device’s photo library. If you decline this permission, you can still use the application by taking new photos with the camera or by saving records using text descriptions only.

Location permission allows the application to capture GPS coordinates when you save a record, if you choose to do so. This permission is optional. If you decline location permission, you can still use the application and record locations using manual text descriptions. You can change your location permission at any time in your device’s system settings.

Notification of permission allows the application to deliver reminders for appointments, medications, and other saved events. If you decline notification permission, the application will not be able to deliver reminder alerts, but all other features remain fully functional.

No permission is required to use the core functionality of Mint Memo. All permissions are optional in the sense that declining any one of them does not prevent you from using the application, though it may limit specific features as described above.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Your data in Mint Memo is retained on your device for as long as you choose to keep it. There is no automatic expiration or deletion of saved records.

You can delete individual records at any time within the application by selecting a record and choosing the delete option. You can delete all saved records at once using the Delete All Memories function available in the application settings. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

Deleting the application from your device will remove the application and all locally stored Mint Memo data from that device, subject to any copies that may exist in your device backup. If you have device backup enabled and want to ensure your Mint Memo data is fully removed, you should delete your records within the application before deleting the application itself, and then manage your backup settings through Apple or Google as appropriate.

Because Mint Memo does not store your data on any server we control, there is no data held by us to delete. If you have questions about data held in your iCloud or Google Drive backups, those requests should be directed to Apple or Google respectively.

8. Data Security

Mint Memo relies on the security features built into the iOS and Android operating systems to protect locally stored data. This includes application sandboxing, which prevents other applications from accessing your Mint Memo data, and device-level encryption, which protects data stored on the device from being read if the device is accessed without authorization.

The security of your Mint Memo data depends significantly on the security settings of your device. We strongly recommend enabling the following on your device to protect your saved records: a screen lock using a PIN, password, or biometric authentication; full-disk or file-based encryption, which is enabled by default on modern iOS and Android devices; and regular operating system updates, which include security patches.

We do not transmit your data over networks for processing or storage, which means your records are not exposed to the risks associated with data transmission or server-side storage. The primary risk to your data is physical access to an unlocked device, which is why device-level security settings are important.

9. Backup and Recovery

Mint Memo data may be included in your device backup if you have enabled backup services through Apple iCloud or Google Drive. This backup is managed entirely by you through your device settings and is governed by Apple’s and Google’s privacy policies and terms of service. We do not initiate, access, or control your device backup.

If you restore a device from a backup that includes Mint Memo data, your saved records should restore alongside the rest of your device data, subject to the backup settings you had in place at the time the backup was created. If your device is lost or damaged and no backup exists, we cannot recover your Mint Memo records.

We recommend keeping device backup enabled if your Mint Memo records are important to you, particularly if you save items that would be difficult to reconstruct, such as document records, warranty photographs, or medication schedules.

10. Children's Privacy

Mint Memo is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child under 13 has used Mint Memo and saved personal information, you can address this by deleting those records within the application or by deleting the application from the child’s device.

Because Mint Memo does not collect personal information from any user, including account registration details or usage analytics, the risk associated with children’s use of the application is limited to the content saved locally on the device by the child. Parental supervision is recommended for any user under the age of 18.

11. Data Protection Rights

Mint Memo is available globally through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The application processes data locally on your device regardless of where you are located. Because we do not transfer your data to our servers, there are no cross-border data transfers of your personal information initiated by us.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with specific data protection requirements, the local-first architecture of Mint Memo means that processing of your data occurs on your device and remains subject to your own control. We do not act as a data controller or data processor with respect to the content of your saved records, because we do not have access to that content.

Users in applicable jurisdictions have the right to access personal data held about them, to request correction of inaccurate data, to request deletion of personal data, to object to processing, and to data portability. Because your data lives on your device and is within your direct control at all times, many of these rights can be exercised directly within the application by editing or deleting records. For any privacy-related request that relates to data we may hold, such as a purchase record or a support inquiry, you can contact us using the details in Section 13 of this policy.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the application or through the platform from which you downloaded it, and we will update the effective date at the top of this document.

Material changes include any change to the types of data we access, the purposes for which we process data, the third parties with whom data is shared, or any change to the local-first architecture described in this policy. If we were to introduce a feature that required transmitting your data to a server, we would update this policy before that feature was available and would seek your explicit consent before any such transmission occurred.

Your continued use of Mint Memo after an updated Privacy Policy takes effect means you accept the updated policy. If you do not agree to any update, you should stop using the application.

13. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, about how your data is handled, or about any privacy-related aspect of the application, you can reach us through the contact options available within the Mint Memo application or through the contact information listed on our App Store or Google Play listing. We will respond to privacy inquiries within a reasonable period of time.
